SOME TATTOO HISTORY.....
- For thousands of years, for cultural and spiritual reasons, humans have decorated their bodies with tattoos. Tattoos were used to distinguish rank in society; to represent family lineage; for beautification; to give a person assistance in crossing over into the spirit world at the time of death; or as a rite of passage from childhood into adulthood.
- Many cultures in our current day still carry on their long-standing practices of the use of tattoos. These traditional tattoos range from the simple but powerful images used by tribes in Africa to the complex designs of the people of the islands of Samoa and New Zealand, to the exquisite and colorful traditions of the Japanese tattoo masters.
- Throughout history, the art of tattoo has risen and fallen in popularity, depending on the country and the whims of the ruling classes. In the USA, we are currently experiencing a promising shift towards the social acceptance and widespread appreciation of the art of tattoo, as is represented by the large amount of tattoo art seen on sports and TV figures, shows, musicians, and on those people we see as we walk through daily life. You might be surprised at the number of people who have tattoos that you never see, “professional” types who choose to have tattoos for their personal enjoyment but not to share with the rest of society. It is said that at the end of the last century, upwards of 75% of high-society women in the US and England had ink that they keep secreted away under their silks. It was quite the rage!
- Tattoos can be applied to signify an important moment or phase in your life, to represent your devotion to your choice of spirituality, to commemorate the birth or loss of someone you love, or just because you wish to have a beautiful piece of art on your body that you will enjoy looking at each day.
- Welcome to the world of the 21st century tattoo……
